She has a condition called Addison's Disease, which is a rare condition of the adrenal glands (they don't output cortisol, aldosterone, and sex hormones). She also has complications from extensive damage to her spine, resulting in chronic pain. Combined, these two challenges in her life cause her to have to redefine what "living" really is.
St. Nick's Hugo Howler (just call him Hugo) is her trusty Boxer. For three years he's had to listen to her yak about life, health, art, and the weather. He hopes that with a blog, he'll get a bit of a break.
